Description and Summary of Workshop: Response to Intervention is a new delivery approach, as an alternate to the wait and see model. RtI was formed as a result of 2004’s Reauthorization of IDEA, to reduce the number of special education placements. It is a process that involves progress monitoring and on-going evaluation of children’s responsiveness to instruction and/or evidence-based interventions as a guide for instructional and eligibility decisions. Schools must adopt the RTI model before referrals are made for special education, testing and placement. Basically, using special ed monies with typical ed students prior to the prereferral process. Presenters discussed goals and benefits of RtI then a specific Colorado school district’s use was shared. Tier I, II & III Real-life interventions were reviewed and used 6 weeks prior to testing. A RtI form is available at www.slatersoftware.com for the Colorado district.
How does it or does not relate to the future for the AHRC Education Department? Seems to be very similar to a multidisciplinary team approach (CST) Child Study Meeting that should be already in place at all of our schools. Individual child study meetings seem to meet criteria however we are already self-contained Integrated programs use as well…
No¨ Possibility to turn-key by who and to whom:
I created a one page “What is RtI?” for the Psychologists Manual
